Scientists of the Medical University of Gdańsk participate in the research project implemented in consortium with the University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and INNOVABION Sp. z o.o. The project “Next generation systems for delivering bioactive molecules in chemically synthesized and genetically engineered nanobiomaterials (BIONANOVA)” is coordinated by Prof. Piotr Skowron from the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Gdańsk.
The leaders of the research groups at the Medical University of Gdańsk are Prof. Michał Pikuła from the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Division of Embryology and Prof. Arkadiusz Piotrowski, of the International Research Agenda. The research conducted by Prof. Pikuła’s team focuses on assessing safety and regenerative and immunoregulatory potential of new nanobiomaterials, while Prof. Arkadiusz Piotrowski’s team studies the molecular effects and mechanisms of action of new materials on human cells, as well as cells derived from animal models.
The results of the research will be used, among others, to develop new unique methods of drug delivery and create innovative nanobiomaterials to treat diseases of various aetiologies.
